It has been a while, but I'm still around and staying busy. We have done quite a few shoots in the last month, and will be posting some of those projects here as soon as they are done. Heres a quick rundown:
July 6th was my brother-in-laws wedding in Bothell, WA. We filmed this with Corey Hage from hage creative
July 12-13th; Joy Marie Photography had a photoshoot for a new clothing line for children, Joah Love
July 18-19th; Comcast was filming a live TV show at the "Bite of Seattle". I was hired to run the remote cameras. Those of you that have Comcast Digital can watch it on Demand Local.
This weekend Jourieh is filming a wedding in Gig Harbor, WA with our our friend Joseph from Catchlight Digital Media

the Magic of Mirrors

You may not know it but on your big day your photographer & videographers are looking for specific key shots, one of these being the mirror shot. From a compact to a handheld or even a full length mirror we are looking for these special shots. With this in mind, you might want to break out the collection of mirrors. Ask you friends and family, someone is bound to have a mirror to match your style and personality. Don't be afraid of the antique handheld mirrors your mom or grandmother may have, they add a lot of character to these shots.
Sorry to add just another thing to think about, but I truly believe this one is defiantly worth the effort.

If your having trouble finding a good one check out ebay. You can pick up a great mirror there for about a buck.

Thanks to Vimeo, we are now able to put our videos online in a streaming player ready to be viewed by all. No need to download special plugins, just log on to our website and enjoy the content. We have all different videos from babies playing to weddings and gymnastics. Here is the video of our engagement photo shoot at Discovery Park in Seattle, WA. Photography was done by Corey Hage, +hage creative+, and the video was filmed by Mike Nicon, Blackout Creations. My fiance and I had our hands in the editing.

Training Forum is up and Running

We have just launched our training forum. Our first series will be dealing with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Feel free to join in, it will be an intense 4 week series extremely focused on SEO and site marketing utilizing Google Adwords. This forum is free to sign-up, and will be updated on a weekly basis. SEO (search engine optimization) seems to be a hot topic these days. I have had many people ask me to optimize thier sites or inquire about training them to do it themselves. Because of such a high demand, I will be adding a forum to my personal website for tips and tutorials on how to best accomplish SEO. This forum is for those experienced with the web and basic coding. For those more timid I can also be contracted to provide the SEO to your site.

Time For a change

The reality of HD is here now. We have now started the process of upgrading our studio to the world of HD. This isn't going to the easiest upgrade since there are so many different options in HD. Do we go with Blu-Ray or HD DVD? 1080p/i or 720p/i? Or even still JVC, Panasonic, Sony, or Canon? But, we have finally decided on a tapeless XDCam solution from Sony.

At least all our Post-Production equipment is ready for the upgrade. Final Cut Studio 2 and our Mac Pros are can't wait to be used to its HD potential. We have over 5tb. of storage ready to take on our tapeless HD workflow. Beginning January 2008 all footage will be captured on XDCam HD and delivered to our customers on SD DVDs with the option of upgrading to Blu-Ray or HD DVD, when they are ready.

A New Website

BlackoutCreations.com has just been through a complete facelift. We have changed our color theme from light airy colors to an elegant expresso brown with "Tiffanys" blue. The result is gorgerous, please be sure to check it out when you have a chance.

Destination San Diego

It is getting a little stressful around the office right now as we prepare for a destination wedding in San Diego this weekend. We are finishing up the shot-lists, updating schedules, and packing... my favorite part.

This is going to be a really special wedding for me because my cousin is the groom. He is the first on my dads side of the family to get married. The best part is he put me in the wedding. It is going to be a beautiful ceremony, it will take place in Founders Chapel San Diego. It is on The University San Diego campus and is the best looking catholic church in the city.

Stay tuned, I will be putting video up here after the ceremony.

A Special Birthday

Last night we attended a birthday party for our friends 9 year old boy. He is the biggest and most energetic 9 year old I have ever met. And this will be a very special birthday for him because it is his 3rd year of living cancer free. Yes that is right, he has been battling cancer for most his life.
We met him and his mom 3 years ago at this camp called Camp Agape, its a camp for families with kids that have cancer. I had volunteered for my first time that year, and hung out with him most the week of camp. We also befriended his mom during the week and have kept in touch throughout the years; going to dinner, bowling, or just hanging out at home playing video games.
It has been tough watching him and his mom go in and out of the hospital, not knowing if the cancer is coming back or if it is him just getting normal kid sicknesses. Things like the common cold, which most parents would just keep their kids home from school, he would be rushed to the hospital and have the full gamut of tests run. That gets to be so taxing on your emotional well being. We are just glad we have the ability to be there for the both of them.
Like I said in the beginning, this will be his 3rd year of staying cancer free. I terms of children the doctors say he is fully recovered and now is the time to watch for the after effects on the kemo. It just seems that for these families the stress will never end, it will always be something and the fear of the cancer returning will always be in the back of their minds.

We have been contracted by Conrad Companies

Conrad Companies (San Diego, Ca) has contracted us to create a video animation for their upcoming tradeshows. This animation is going to be a little tricky considering they gave me a static image and said, "let try to make this image move..."

This project is really exciting for me as it will test my abilities and challenge me creatively. Lets see what I can do.

Our First Cable Spot

We have just been hired by Seattle Supersonics (professional basketball team) to edit a 30 sec commercial spot to be aired on cable broadcast.

Their commercial is already airing, but they wanted it to have a fresh updated and catchy look to it. The have hired us to create the final touches to the ending title plates.
